Florida Beaches within easy driving distance of Esprit
There are two coastlines to choose from - the Space Coast to the East and the Gulf Coast to the West of Orlando.
Canaveral National Seashore
Situated between bold Daytona Beach and crowded Cocoa, one of Florida's last stretches of undeveloped beachfront lingers. Canaveral National Seashore -- a barrier island studded with dunes, lagoons, salt marshes and pine flatlands -- extends for a glorious 25 miles along the Space Coast. With hardly any crowds, this serene beach offers calmer surf than neighboring stretches, as well as world-class bird-watching. Originally planned as a buffer zone for the Kennedy Space Center, the area was named a national seashore in 1975. Today, three government agencies collaborate to ensure a balance between the highly technical space program, wildlife management and public recreation. Access the beautiful Apollo and Playalinda beaches from public parking lots, but trek to Klondike Beach for a more remote setting
The landscape here is untarnished with few amenities.
Take water and a packed lunch!
The park acts as home to 310 classes of birds, including several rare species. For the best bird-watching, look in shallow marshes along the border between the water and upland areas during the early morning and late afternoon hours.
Cocoa Beach
Just six miles long, and mostly less than one mile wide, Cocoa Beach is truly unique. Where else can you choose between watching a space launch from the beach or precious animal species in their natural habitat? Play a round of golf, or just enjoy a day at the beach where you will likely see dolphins at play or be lucky enough to see an occasional whale in migration. Widely known as the surfing capitol of the East Coast.
Daytona Beach
Daytona Beach offers 24 miles of sand. Water sport enthusiasts can choose from sail boarding, jet skiing, parasailing, scuba diving and of course, surfing.
An hour from Orlando, restrooms and shower facilities along the beachfront and picnic tables are plentiful.
Apart from the restaurants, and shops, Main Street Pier includes a skyway that runs the entire length of the pier with a 180 foot tall Space Needle. The oceanside boardwalk provides a host of bars, restaurants and amusements. Rent boogie boards and beach cycles on the beach.
See the Sea Turtles - from May to October, these magnificent animals emerge from the surf at night to lay their eggs in nests dug into the dry sand, then return to the sea. Two months later, about a hundred baby turtles emerge from each of these nests and crawl to the ocean.
Flagler Beach
Peaceful and relaxing, one of the most unspoiled areas of Florida.
Situated between Daytona Beach and St. Augustine. The Gamble Rogers Memorial State Recreation Area is of the best camping sites in the state.
The Pier stretches 844 feet over the Atlantic, an ideal place to watch the sunrise and a great spot for fishing.
New Smyrna Beach
Surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean to the east, the Intra coastal Waterway to the west and Mosquito Lagoon in between the two. New Smyrna prides itself on being a laid-back coastal town, free of the crowds, pollution and noise that plague other Florida beaches. It is the ideal location to go wild with water sports.
Satellite Beach
Situated south of Patrick's Air Force base, close to Cocoa Beach. The beaches are less crowded than Cocoa. The beach is patrolled in the summer, and shallow waters make it safer for children.
Samson's Island Nature Park has nature trails, camping and fishing.
Ponce Inlet
Visit Ponce Inlet Lighthouse, the tallest in Florida. Climb the 175-foot-tall tower for a magnificent view of the Florida coastline and Halifax River from Daytona Beach to New Smyrna Beach.
Daytona Beach Shores
Much more peaceful than Daytona Beach, located on a barrier island on the Atlantic Ocean. Just 5.5 miles long and a few hundred yards wide, the City features a pristine beach where famed race car drivers once vied to set world speed records.
Home to various attractions, including The Court of Flags, Legends Walk of Fame - featuring bricks dedicated to famous car racing drivers, Otto Schultze Memorial - a tribute to the late City Councilman that includes the seven flags used in automobile racing. A display of racing memorabilia can be seen in the Community Center.
